I've had the pleasure of working with Mr. Costello on 3 occasions: the first was when he contacted me, following his seeing me play with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a documentary, to ask me to do some drumming with the London Symphony Orchestra for a recording of his full-length ballet "Il Sogno" ("The Dream") that he composed and orchestrated himself! Michael Tilson-Thomas conducted the orchestra and we recorded the piece in Abbey Road Studios. The recording will be released next month on DGG, I believe.
The 2nd time was when Elvis asked me to play on his recording "North" ... pretty much all ballads, I was incredibly taken by Elvis's lyrical poetry, musical enthusiasm and work ethic!
The 3rd time was just a couple of weeks ago in Montreal, when he joined his wife Diana Krall and band (I'm on tour with her now) to sing a couple of songs. He did a great job.
Elvis and Diana have written some wonderful songs together, several of which appear on her new album "The Girl in the Other Room." He has a delightful sense of humor, a terrific voice, and an inspired mind.
As you might be able to tell: I'm a fan.
Greetings from Houston, Texas (still on tour).
Peter Erskine

Hrm, while on the topic (of story telling),
any chance you remember something funny or interesting from the Steely Dan tour?
Thanks,
